I think it’s better to have the party choose. In places where the people choose the person, like America, the race ends up much more about style over substance. I like to think the party in whole has the power, not just one person. Also, it means we can have ugly or bald politicians, who very well may do a good job. I don’t want all ugly or bald people disallowed from office just because they are ugly or bald.

I also think it prevents a popular vote against intelligence or achievement which can also be seen in America. All the plebs voting for someone ‘just like them’. I want to vote for someone smarter and more capable than myself. I don’t need to feel comfortable around them as if we were seated together at a dinner party. I just want them to make good decisions. Get some more Rhodes scholars in there, I say.
