I went out on an RSVP date a couple of days ago. Now I know I promised a few weeks ago that I wouldn’t be writing about my dating experiences anymore, but I think this is alright – I can write about this experience because: I’m not going to be saying anything particularly personal or identifying [...] Have I mentioned before that I have a massive crush on Naomi Klein? It’s massively superficial. I’m just crazy for the ideas in her head and the way she puts them into sentences and paragraphs. Over the last fortnight, a couple of people have asked me whether I’ve been dating someone. One comment was in relation to my infrequent recent blogging habits, surmising that I’d been neglecting that in favour of devoting more time to that special someone. This would be a fair enough excuse – it appears quite typical [...] Like many my age, I grew up with Star Wars. I wasn’t old enough to see the first film at the cinema, but The Empire Strikes Back is one of my earliest cinema-going memories. Actually, my dad got hold of the book before we saw the film, and he used to read it to me [...] Last week I received some suggestions regarding avenues I could explore to meet that significant someone. I’ll be returning to these, in blog form at least, over the coming weeks, but for the moment I’ve been sucked back into the online dating site, RSVP. It was late one night, I was slightly drunk, checking my [...] So I figure it’s time to get back into the whole dating thing. It’s been close to three months since my last relationship ended. I’ve done the requisite soul-searching – what I did, what she did, where things went wrong and why in the end it was a good idea to hit the toad and [...] So I’m a single man once again, have been for almost two weeks. I’m not going to blog about the relationship or the breakup at all – it would be inappropriate – save to say that it was overall a positive experience. Here we are, back on deck. Hope we haven’t lost too many of you in the downtime. There have been a couple of reasons for my lack of posting recently. Monday was date 2.5 – I’m calling it that because we just met for a nice pot of tea as a break in her studies for an upcoming exam. It’s really more of an interim meeting between dates. I did buy flowers, pink roses, and they went down pretty well. The girl at the florist [...] I read something very interesting yesterday in a writing textbook. It was about how successful writing, and problem solving in general, is a mixture of vertical and lateral thinking. Vertical thinking is what others call craft, technique, logic, or even the “90% perspiration”. Lateral thinking is the “10% inspiration”, the muse, intuition, the personal element [...] |
